BRIEF: Blackhawks give Viktor Svedberg 2-year contract extension

March 15--Apparently the Blackhawks have liked what they have seen from defenseman Viktor Svedberg.

The Hawks gave the 24-year-old defenseman a two-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season. A league source told the Tribune the contract is a one-way deal worth $1.5 million overall for an annual salary-cap hit of $750,000.

Svedberg, who is one of the tallest players in NHL history at 6-foot-8, has two goals and two assists in 19 games with the Hawks this season.

Svedberg has bounced between the Hawks and their AHL affiliate in Rockford multiple times this season. He has one goal and 13 assists in 36 games with the IceHogs.
