Dec. 10--The summary
Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane scored in the shootout Tuesday night to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 victory over the Devils at the Prudential Center. Bryan Bickell and Duncan Keith had goals in regulation as the Hawks extended their winning streak to seven and are 2-0-0 on their four-game trip.
Jordin Tootoo and Stephen Gionta scored for the Devils but it wasn't enough as Scott Darling earned the win in goal for the Hawks, out-dueling Devils netminder Keith Kinkaid.
Key moment
With the Hawks down 2-1, Keith pounced on a rebound of a Marian Hossa shot and fired the puck into the open net with 3 minutes, 13 seconds left in the third period for his sixth goal of the season.
Tribune's three stars
1. Keith: In addition to the tying goal, veteran logged a game-high 30:36 of ice time and was a plus-1.
2. Kinkaid: In his first NHL start, the rookie made 37 saves to help the Devils earn a point.
3. Jonathan Toews, Hawks: Had an assist and played the final stages of the game despite taking a puck to the face in the third period.
Big number
4: Number of shootout wins in as many chances for the Hawks this season. They remain one of two teams in the NHL -- the Bruins are the other -- that haven't allowed a shootout goal (11 shots).
The quote
"We're happy with the way things have gone. We're (in the midst) of a real busy stretch with 10 of 12 games on the road and some tough buildings as well. We have a little momentum right now and we just want to sustain it." -- Hawks coach Joel Quenneville
