BRIEF: Blackhawks defenseman David Rundblad clears waivers

Dec. 29--Blackhawks defenseman David Rundblad cleared waivers Tuesday, according to multiple reports, meaning Rundblad will remain with the organization.

Where Rundblad will play next remains to be seen, since the Blackhawks now have the option of sending Rundblad to Rockford.

Rundblad has played sparingly this season (9 games) and has been a healthy scratch for most games. Defenseman Erik Gustafsson was recalled on Monday from Rockford.

He was not at the Blackhawks practice Monday.

If the Blackhawks send Rundblad to Rockford, they would gain $950,000 on cap space on his $1.05 million contract, which runs through next season. That cap space would apply only as long as Rundblad remained in Rockford.
