Feb. 26--SUNRISE, Fla. -- With the trade deadline looming Monday, it's expected general manager Stan Bowman will be active in acquiring players to help the team down the stretch of the regular season.
Bowman pulled the trigger on a deal Thursday, but it involved players in the minor leagues.
The Hawks acquired forward Spencer Abbott from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for defenseman T.J. Brennan. Abbott will report to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.
The 26-year-old Abbott has 37 goals and 90 assists in 168 career AHL games over portions of four seasons with the Toronto Marlies.
Brennan, 25, led the IceHogs with 36 points off nine goals and 27 assists in 54 games played this season. The blue liner was acquired via trade Oct. 4, 2014, from the New York Islanders.
