April 19--A group of women who filed an $11-million lawsuit against the Napa Valley Wine Train after they were kicked off a tour reportedly for being too loud have reached a settlement with the company.
The group's attorney, Waukeen McCoy, said the deal was reached last week and is confidential.
The women were members of the Sistahs on the Reading Edge book club and met on the train in late August to discuss a romance novel. The 11 women -- 10 black and one white -- said a train employee told them they were being too loud before they were escorted off the train. They were then met by police officers and given a bus ride back to the station.
Reading club members said they were treated differently because of their race.
The tour company's chief executive later apologized and promised increased sensitivity training for employees and offered the women a ride in a private car.
