Feb. 04--Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is leaving Chicago to tour America for inspiration for a new documentary and album, he announced Thursday on his website.
Corgan is asking for guidance from his fans about where to go and what to see. In exchange, Corgan said he'll perform with his guitar. He and his friend Justin plan to head south along the Mississippi River and then west, posting an intended route each morning but remaining flexible.
"For newer sights I look towards ruinous America, and her open road. Or something approximating the mightiest byway of the 1800's, the grand Mississippi, and that closest urbane chimera, Route 66," Corgan wrote on his peopleandtheircars.com site. "Add one ruddy military vet and a stack of maps, and we'll hit out on those same veins and tributaries, heading from Chicago first towards more temperate climes."
The Smashing Pumpkins announced this week the band will host "acoustic-electro evenings" around the country in the spring. The band plans to perform songs from its 1993 album "Siamese Dream."
A Civic Opera House show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. April 14. Tickets are slated to go on sale Friday.
