BRIEF: Bike shop owner offers reward in theft of $7,000 bike

Dec. 20--A mountain bike worth $7,000 was stolen from a Wheaton bicycle shop Saturday afternoon, and store owners are offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who can identify the culprits.

Security cameras captured images of the thieves, a man and woman who appear to be in their late 20s, as they wheeled the bike out of the shop, said Spokes bike store owner Raouf Radi.

The couple came into the store, 69 Danada Square East, about 12:30 p.m. and asked to see the bike, so a salesperson pulled it down off the rack where it hung in the store, Radi said.

"Because of the holidays, the staff is real busy. He just walked out," Radi said. "They see cameras everywhere. They're bold."

The bicycle is a Pivot brand Mach 6 Carbon X01 full suspension mountain bike in "stealth carbon," which is a shade of gray, said Muneer Radi, Raouf Radi's son and a co-owner of the store.

Spokes is the only shop in Illinois that sells Pivot bikes, Raouf Radi said. He is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to its return.

Anyone with information should contact Wheaton Police at 630-260-2000 or Spokes at 630-690-2050.
