April 18--Vice President Joe Biden will visit the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on Thursday to talk about preventing sexual assault on college campuses across the country, his office announced.
The event will highlight the "It's On Us" sexual assault prevention campaign, which is aimed at engaging college students and everyone else who is part of campus communities in preventing sexual assault.
The time and location of his presentation were not disclosed in Friday's announcement.
At the White House last September, Biden joined President Barack Obama as he unveiled "It's On Us," which asks everyone to make a personal commitment to step off the sidelines to end campus sexual assault.
Obama said then it is estimated that 1 in 5 women have been sexually assaulted while in college, only 12 percent of the assaults are reported and a fraction of the offenders are punished. He said it was "an affront to our basic humanity" for students to work so hard to make it through the college gates only to be assaulted.
