BRIEF: Bicyclist killed on Near West Side

July 26--A bicyclist was hit and killed by an SUV on the Near West Side on Saturday night.

The 53-year-old man was riding south on Western Avenue around 11:40 p.m. when a blue SUV struck him at the intersection of Western Avenue and Congress Parkway. The SUV's driver was trying to pass the bicyclist, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, police said.

Police said the SUV driver would be cited.

The Cook County medical examiner's office has not yet identified the bicyclist.
