BRIEF: Bicyclist killed, pedestrian hurt when hit by car in Lawndale

Dec. 08--A bicyclist was killed and a pedestrian injured when they were hit by a car late Sunday evening in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side, police said.

A 55-year-old man was on his bike and a 45-year-old man was walking near 14th Street and Kostner Avenue around 11:20 p.m. when a gray sedan struck them, according to Officer Ron Gaines, a Chicago police spokesman.

The 55-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Gaines said.

He was identified as Robert Blount, of the 800 block of North Hamlin Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy determined that he died as a result of the accident and his death was ruled an accident.

The pedestrian was also taken to Mount Sinai and his condition was stabilized, Gaines said.

The driver was cited for driving without insurance and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.
