BRIEF: Bears waive 3rd-string quarterback David Fales

Sept. 16--The Bears waived third-string quarterback David Fales on Tuesday.

The move opens a spot on the 53-man roster and positions the second-year quarterback to fill the Bears' practice squad vacancy if he clears waivers and if the team wants to retain him.

Fales, who was a sixth-round draft pick in 2014, impressed coaches with his pocket presence in the exhibition finale against the Browns on Sept. 3. He completed 14 of 18 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns.

With backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen still recovering from a concussion that weekend, Fales made the Bears' 53-man roster. Clausen was cleared to return to football activities last week.
