BRIEF: Bears trade for Texans tight end Khari Lee

Sept. 02--The Chicago Bears continue to work over their roster at tight end behind starter Martellus Bennett as they announced a trade for Khari Lee of the Houston Texans on Wednesday.

The Bears waived tight end Blake Annen to make room for Lee. The Texans received a 2017 sixth-round draft pick.

Lee, an undrafted rookie from Bowie State, made five catches for 71 yards in Houston's three preseason games but is considered an in-line blocker. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder caught 34 passes for 389 yards and one touchdown last season and needs to make the jump from a low level of college ball.

The Bears traded for Lee because they didn't want to take the chance they would miss out on him via the waiver claim system. His addition could mean that veteran Bear Pascoe will be challenged to make the 53-man roster. Bennett leads the Bears with 11 receptions in preseason. Dante Rosario has two catches and no other tight end has made a reception.

The Bears claimed tight end Gannon Sinclair off waivers from the Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday.
