June 08--The Chicago Bears signed college free agent receiver Ify Umodu and waived rookie linebacker Jamil Merrell on Monday.
Umodu had 1,883 yards, 136 receptions and 15 touchdowns in 39 career games for Northern Arizona. The 6-foot-2, 216-pounder tried out for the club at team's May rookie minicamp.
Merrell, who was undrafted out of Rutgers last season, finished the year on the Bears' practice squad.
