Nov. 05--Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte did not practice Thursday as the team began on-field preparations for Monday night's road game against the San Diego Chargers.
Forte injured his right knee when tackled on a screen pass in the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He limped off the field under his own power.
Rookie Jeremy Langford, a fourth-round draft pick, is in line to start if Forte can't play.
"I think he's naturally pretty good," coach John Fox said of Langford. "I think the maturity of him is he's willing to learn. He doesn't think he has it all yet."
If Forte must sit out, Fox believes Forte still can help Langford.
"Matt (is) a leader on this football team," Fox said. "He was voted captain offensively, and he's been that kind of guy. ... I think he'll continue to do that."
Outside linebacker Pernell McPhee (knee) and receiver Eddie Royal (left knee) did not practice.
Inside linebacker Shea McClellin (left knee) practiced for the first time since he was hurt Oct. 10. He was limited.
