BRIEF: Bears rookie receiver Kevin White has surgery on his shin

Aug. 24--Chicago Bears receiver Kevin White had surgery to repair the stress fracture in his left shin on Sunday in the Chicago area.

As general manager Ryan Pace described it on Aug. 15, White was to have a rod inserted in his left tibia to aid his recovery from the fracture he suffered in June and aggravated earlier this month.

The Bears have offered no timetable for White's return to football. But the rookie likely will miss the 2015 season, according to multiple orthopedists familiar with the type of surgery White had but were not involved in his care.

Pace selected White seventh overall in April in his first draft as GM, making him a cornerstone of the Bears' rebuilding effort. White's speed and other top-end measurable traits convinced many NFL evaluators of his star potential.

He impressed Bears coaches and scouts at his Pro Day in March and at the Bears' rookie minicamp in May. But the team shut him down in June after detecting a limp in his stride during spring practices. White suffered a setback in his rehabilitation around Aug. 11 and opted for surgery.
