BRIEF: Bears remain cautious with injured rookie Kevin White

Oct. 16--Injured first-round rookie receiver Kevin White did some rehabilitation activity Thursday during the portion of practice reporters were allowed to watch.

White has been rehabbing from the surgery he had Aug. 23 to repair the stress fracture in his left tibia, but Thursday was the first time the seventh-overall draft pick has done any of it in public.

White still is a long shot to play this season, given that the tibia is a weight-bearing bone and the fact he already suffered one setback in training camp. The Bears have made it known they are being extremely cautious with White and would not jeopardize his long-term health at the expense of this season.

He currently is on the physically unable to perform list. The window for players on PUP to begin practicing is Oct. 20 to Nov. 10. Once a player begins practicing, his team has 21 days to add him to the active roster. So the Bears can leave White's status open-ended into next month in case his recovery progresses quicker than anticipated.

White at least is expected to begin traveling with the Bears on trips to soak up as much of the NFL player's experience as possible and help him get acclimated to life in the league.
