May 09--Bears general manager Ryan Pace has called the draft the lifeblood of the organization, and he's in search of a top lieutenant to help keep that pipeline thriving.
Joe Douglas, the Bears college scouting director, has been hired to oversee all facets of the Eagles scouting operation, according to a source. The Eagles are expected to announce the hiring soon. The move was anticipated after Pace granted the Eagles permission to meet with Douglas last week.
Douglas worked for the Bears for only one season after 15 years with the Ravens as a national and area scout focusing on the East Coast. He interviewed for the Eagles college scouting director job a year ago before he joined the Bears. Now he will oversee their pro and college scouting operations under executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman.
The Bears could have blocked the Eagles from speaking with Douglas because he was under contract and isn't being hired as a general manager. But it's a clear promotion and likely means significantly more pay.
Pace is expected to promote a member of the current college scouting staff to fill the role.
