Feb. 12--The Chicago Bears are expected to hire Ben McDaniels as an offensive quality control coach, a source said Friday.
McDaniels, whose older brother Josh is the New England Patriots offensive coordinator, was Rutgers' offensive coordinator last season.
McDaniels, 35, joins a staff that was shaken up in January by the departure of offensive coordinator Adam Gase for the Miami Dolphins head coaching job.
Bo Hardegree followed Gase from Chicago to Miami, leaving his post as Bears offensive assistant to become the Dolphins quarterbacks coach. That created a vacancy for McDaniels. Meanwhile, the Bears have not filled their receivers coach position.
McDaniels was an offensive assistant for the Denver Broncos in 2009 and was their quarterbacks coach in 2010, the season before John Fox's arrival there. He spent 2012-13 on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive staff. He played quarterback at Kent State from 1999 to 2001.
Sports Illustrated first reported McDaniels was leaving Rutgers for the Bears.
