BRIEF: Bears cut LB Sam Acho, promote Lamin Barrow to 53-man roster

Sept. 13--On the eve of their regular-season opener, the Bears did some minor roster reshuffling, terminating the contract of outside linebacker Sam Acho and elevating fellow linebacker Lamin Barrow from the practice squad.

Acho has been out of action the last two weeks with the team declaring he has an illness. Yet coach John Fox has refused to offer additional specifics. And when asked about Acho's prolonged absence Friday, Fox insisted the linebacker was "getting better every day."

"When he's well, he'll be out there," Fox said.

Barrow's promotion puts him in position to help the Bears on special teams Sunday against the Packers. The second-year linebacker played all 16 games for the Broncos a year ago.

Acho, meanwhile, had established himself as a core special teams contributor during training camp and added five tackles, two sacks, a forced fumble and an interception during the first two exhibitions.

Whether he will be in position to rejoin the Bears once he's healthy remains to be seen
