Jan. 08--The popular and elusive street artist known as Banksy is believed to have shared an Instagram tribute to the 12 victims gunned down at the Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris on Wednesday.
Hooded attackers armed with assault rifles infiltrated the building near the Bastille monument around 11:40 a.m. and opened fire on staff members of the French satirical weekly.

Around 12 hours later, the "Banksy" Instagram account posted an "RIP" tribute to the victims by artist Lucille Clerc that was shared quickly and widely on social media platforms. Though the identity of the person behind the account has not been confirmed, the account has long been accepted to belong to Banksy.

More than 7,000 mentions of the drawing appeared on Twitter about an hour after it was posted, according to Topsy, a trend tracking site.
