BRIEF: Baldwin Park man, 37, shot to death; several people detained

April 21--A shooting death on the front lawn of a Baldwin Park home triggered a standoff that ended early Tuesday with an L.A. County Sheriff's Department SWAT team taking several men into custody, officials said.

Deputies began wrapping up the scene in the 13200 block of Earl Avenue about 5 a.m., the department's Special Enforcement Bureau tweeted.

The team had surrounded a home there after getting word that the two potential gunmen who had shot a 37-year-old man to death on nearby Cosbey Street were inside, authorities said.

The shooting occurred after 8 p.m. Monday in the 3800 block of Cosbey, the Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

"All we know is the individual walked out of his house and was outside on the lawn for a couple of minutes and several shots were heard," Lt. Dave Coleman told KTLA.

The people inside the Earl Avenue home voluntarily surrendered to the SWAT team, KTLA reported. No one has been arrested and the investigation is ongoing, officials said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Sheriff's Department homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500.
