Sept. 25--There's no crying in baseball, but if you were born at the stadium, we'll forgive you just this once.
A woman attending Thursday's San Diego Padres game against the San Francisco Giants delivered the first baby born at Petco Park in the stadium's 11-year history.
"She was perfectly calm," said Donna Borowy, a Padres employee since 1988 and registered nurse, according to the Padres' website. "She said, 'I'm having my baby. Can I make it to the hospital?' "
San Diego firefighters were called to the scene, but baby Levi beat out the throw in the third inning.
In another quirk of the evening, Ian Kennedy was starting for the Padres.
In August, Kennedy watched the birth of his fourth daughter, Evelyn Nicole, via FaceTime because he was stuck in Miami. That same night, he went on to pitch against the Marlins, and the Padres came away with the win.
On Thursday, with Kennedy on the mound again, the Padres won, 5-4, on a walk-off single by Alexi Amarista.
Attendance at last night's game: 31,137 + 1.
