BRIEF: Police: Woman, 19, in custody in death of newborn in Uptown

Nov. 14--A 19-year-old woman was in custody Friday afternoon in connection with the death of a newborn girl found outside a high-rise in the Uptown neighborhood.

The woman was arrested at her home in the 800 block of West Eastwood Avenue, the same building where the baby was found lying on the grass outside around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said. No charges have been announced.

The baby girl suffered blunt-force trauma and her death has been ruled a homicide, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police said the baby was taken to nearby Weiss Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead. Sources said doctors worked on the baby for more than an hour.

An autopsy determined that the baby died of multiple blunt-force injuries, the office said.
