BRIEF: Authorities searching Neverland Ranch after call to sheriff's office

March 18--The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement agencies are searching Neverland Ranch, former home of pop star Michael Jackson, after a report that crime was being committed on the property.

A call came into the sheriff's non-emergency line about 3:45 p.m. about the Santa Ynez Valley property, said Kelly Hoover, spokeswoman for the sheriff's office.

Hoover would not comment on the specifics of the call, including what crime was being reported.

"We are trying to determine if this is legitimate," she said.

Owen Blicksilver, spokesman for Colony Capital, the property company that owns Neverland Ranch, said the call was believed to be a hoax, but he was grateful authorities were checking the area.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
