BRIEF: Au Cheval spinoff, Small Cheval, to open in Bucktown

July 24--Big news for burger lovers: Small Cheval, a spinoff of West Loop cult favorite Au Cheval, is slated to open August 1 in the former Roxie's By the Slice space at 1732 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Bucktown.

The cheeseburger at Au Cheval, just named the best in the country by Food Network, features either two or three thin beef patties, maple-glazed bacon and housemade dijonaise. At fast-casual Small Cheval, which Sodikoff calls a "faster" version of Au Cheval (a restaurant that, three years after opening, still regularly has two-hour waits), diners can order a hamburger ($8.95) or cheeseburger ($9.95) with choice of bacon, lettuce and/or tomato.

Also on offer: fries, shakes, cocktails and beer.
