Sept. 01--You can thank Atlas Genius for the "Friendly Ape" vegan doughnut available at Do-Rite Donuts for a limited time.
The Australian rock duo teamed up with the vegan-friendly Do-Rite Donuts to create "Friendly Ape," as part of Do-Rite's collaboration series. "Friendly Ape" is available through Sept. 11 and named after the band's song, "Friendly Apes," which is featured on their recently released album, "Inanimate Objects." The doughnut includes roasted Michigan apples with cardamom glaze and cinnamon oat streusel.
The collaboration series previously included the "Sweet Heat" old fashioned doughnut from Fitz and the Tantrums' singer Noelle Scaggs. I'm told Scaggs is friends with Do-Rite chefs and creators Jeff Mahin and Francis Brennan and invited her pals from Atlas Genius to participate in the series.
Atlas Genius is scheduled to perform Tuesday on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
