BRIEF: AT installs free Wi-Fi along Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena

Dec. 03--AT and the City of Pasadena have teamed up to install free Wi-Fi along Colorado Boulevard for mobile device users -- regardless of wireless carrier.

The free Wi-Fi is available along a four-block stretch in Old Pasadena from Pasadena Avenue to Arroyo Parkway.

Smartphone and tablet device owners can use the 14 access points by searching for the Wi-Fi network SSID "attwifi" on any Wi-Fi enabled device and following the prompts to connect. The service is available to all smartphone and tablet device owners without cost and will not count against monthly data allotments, AT said.

Jace Barbin, vice president and general manager of AT Mobility in the Greater Los Angeles area, said the company hoped the free Wi-Fi enhanced users' overall experience while visiting Pasadena.

The wireless carrier said the move was part of its commitment to Los Angeles, where more than 2,215 additional hot spots are available at venues throughout the city.

AT invested more than $1.95 billion in its wireless and wired networks in the greater Los Angeles area, including Pasadena, between 2011 and 2013.

The company also noted that the Wi-Fi access points are on the Rose Parade route.
