BRIEF: At Hong Kong McDonald's: Open kitchen, table service -- and quinoa

Dec. 31--McDonald's has opened a futuristic model restaurant in Hong Kong complete with nontraditional menu items like quinoa, plus an open kitchen and table service.

Called McDonald's Next, the restaurant appears to combine many services and menu items that the world's largest burger chain is testing with customers.

Create Your Taste kiosks to design sandwiches are featured prominently. The restaurant also brings in a design-your-own salad option. Create Your Taste is currently available in a handful of U.S. locations, including one in Downers Grove.

The kitchen itself is open, Brand Channel reports, so customers can see their food being prepared as they would in a hibachi restaurant or sushi bar.

The Hong Kong location also offers table service after 6 p.m., a concept McDonald's is testing in Southern California.

Wi-Fi is free, a feature widely available in U.S. restaurants, but there are also charging stations and cords available to plug in smartphones, Brand Channel said.

The menu is diverse and offers some interesting options that customers won't find in McDonald's restaurants today, including quinoa and asparagus, according to Business Insider.
