BRIEF: AstonRep announces 2016-17 season

May 02--AstonRep Theatre Company announced its 2016-17 season on Monday.

First up is "The Black Slot" (Sept. 1-Oct. 2), Warren Hoffman's satirical world premiere (the company's first) about race and regional theater. Associate artistic director Derek Bertelsen will direct.

Lee Blessing's three-generation woman-focused drama "Eleemosynary" (February 2017) is next, co-directed by Bertelsen and Jeremiah Barr.

Closing out the season is Donald Marguiles' "Time Stands Still" (May 11-June 11), about a photojournalist and reporter who return from Iraq in search of a more ordinary life.

Performances of "The Black Slot" and "Time Stands Still" will take place at Raven Theatre, 6157 N. Clark St., with a yet-to-be announced location for "Eleemosynary."

The season also includes the seventh annual Writers' Series, offering workshops for new plays, in November at The Den Theatre, 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave.
