BRIEF: Artemisia Theatre announces 2016-17 season

March 03--Artemisia, a Chicago theater dedicated to producing female-centered plays, has announced its 2016-17 slate of productions.

The season opens in the fall with "Her Story is Our Story," a festival of six staged readings of feminist plays from Sept. 22 -- Oct. 1. One play from the festival will be chosen to be fully produced by the company next season.

Artemisia will then present "Shrewish," Barbara Zahora's adaptation of the Bard's battle of the sexes, as part of Shakesepare 400. Zahora will direct the production, which runs Nov. 4 -- 20.

Closing out the season is Ed Proudfoot's "Visiting," the winner of the 2015 new play festival. Steve Scott will direct an all-female cast in the drama about a depressed high school senior running April 14 -- May 7.

All performances will take place at the Edge Theatre, 5451 N. Broadway.
