Jan. 06--Arson is suspected as the cause of a fire at a San Francisco home used in the making of the movie "Mrs. Doubtfire" starring the late Robin Williams, police said.
Police and fire arson investigators were called at about 8:14 p.m. Monday to the home in the 2600 block of Steiner Street after the homeowner put out the blaze, San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza said.
The homeowner, Douglas Ousterhout, told police that he smelled gasoline and saw his front doormat was smoldering. Ousterhout, a plastic surgeon, doused the flames and then called authorities.
The fire damaged the home's front door and garage.
The Victorian home was used in filming Williams' 1993 movie about a father separated from his wife who poses as a nanny to his two children in an attempt to win them back.
After Williams committed suicide last year, fans flocked to the Pacific Heights home and set up a makeshift memorial with flowers and photographs.
