Nov. 06--Two suspects are on the loose after robbing a cellphone store in Tinley Park and escaping police in a chase, police said.
The armed robbery occurred at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, when two suspects entered the Verizon store at 7101 183rd Street and stole cellphones, police Chief Steve Neubauer said.
One of the suspects was armed, but no one was hurt, Neubauer said.
The two fled in an SUV and were chased by Tinley Park police, but they escaped onto Interstate 80, Neubauer said.
A Mokena officer spotted the driver eastbound on U.S. Route 30 at Wolf Road and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped off. Mokena police didn't give chase because they did not think it was safe, police Chief Steve Vaccaro said.
The suspects' vehicle was a silver 2003 Infiniti FX35, Neubauer said.
The suspects were described as black men, 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11 with medium-large builds, Neubauer said. One wore eyeglasses and the other wore sunglasses. They had dark clothing with hoods, he said.
There have been a number of armed robberies of cellphone stores recently in the Chicago region, Neubauer said.
