April 08--A man armed with a gun briefly held two children hostage in an apartment on the Northwest Side on Tuesday morning but released them unharmed after talking to police, authorities said.
Police were called to an apartment building in the 3000 block of North Harlem Avenue around 6:20 a.m., officials said.
Shortly afterward, the man came out on the balcony with two children and then went back inside.
The man, Ross Bulski, was charged with two misdemeanors in connection with the incident -- aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and domestic battery.
Police said the Bulski had kicked his wife out at gunpoint and barricaded himself in the home with the two children, ages 4 and 9.
Detectives and SWAT officers responded and had several conversations with the man before he released the children around 10 a.m., police said.
"They were able to have him come out of the apartment with the children, safely," said Grand Central District Cmdr. Maria Pena. "A handgun was recovered on the scene, and all involved have been treated by EMT to make sure everyone is OK."
