BRIEF: Antoine Vermette credits pregnant wife with keeping him focused

June 18--Center Antoine Vermette knew he and his wife, Karen, would be expecting their second child in mid-June. What Vermette didn't expect before being traded to the Blackhawks from the Coyotes after Patrick Kane broke his collarbone was to be scoring three game-winning goals en route to winning the Stanley Cup at the same time.

Vermette kept one hand on his phone and his mind on his wife Wednesday -- the baby's due date -- while meeting with the media at the United Center.

How did he divide his mind enough to contribute after not scoring a goal during 19 regular-season games with the Blackhawks?

"It's a strange situation," said Vermette, an unrestricted free agent. "I have to give my wife credit. I hope you guys write this or I'm getting in trouble sometimes.

"She's awesome and that's a big part of it. She's making me have a chance to focus on what I have to do pretty easy with all the stuff you have to deal with when you're pregnant."
