June 23--It's virtually certain that Anthony Rizzo will have to be selected by his peers, managers and coaches to have any chance of making the National League All-Star team.
In the latest voting released Tuesday, Rizzo fell to fifth place among NL first basemen despite his .308 batting average, 15 home runs, 43 RBIs and .418 on-base percentage.
Thanks to league-leading .356 batting average, 19 home runs, 57 RBIs and .474 on-base percentage and a relentless social media campaign, Paul Goldschmidt of Arizona leads NL first basemen. Rizzo trails Goldschmidt by more than 3.7 million votes.
Adrian Gonzalez of the Dodgers, Joey Votto of the Reds and Matt Adams of the Cardinals trail Goldschmidt.
Cubs rookie Kris Bryant is third among NL third basemen, trailing Matt Carpenter of the Cardinals and Todd Frazier of the Reds. Starlin Castro is fourth among NL shortstops and Miguel Montero fifth among catchers.
Fan voting for the NL starters ends July 2.
