Feb. 11--The Angels have signed former Dodgers and Chicago White Sox reliever Javy Guerra to minor league deal with an invitation to big league spring-training camp, General Manager Billy Eppler confirmed on Wednesday.
Guerra, a 30-year-old right-hander, had two strong seasons for the Dodgers in 2011-2012, pitching to a 2.45 earned-run average with 29 saves in 92 games, striking out 75 and walking 41 in 91 2/3 innings.
But he was slowed by knee and shoulder injuries in 2013, pitching to a 6.75 ERA in 10 games and spending the bulk of the season at triple-A Albuquerque.
The White Sox claimed Guerra off waivers in the spring of 2014, and Guerra pitched to a 2.91 ERA in 42 games for Chicago that season, striking out 38 and walking 20 in 46 1/3 innings.
But Guerra was slowed again by shoulder inflammation in 2015 and made only three appearances for the White Sox.
While pitching for triple-A Charlotte last season, Guerra was suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball in July for testing positive for a drug of abuse for a second time.
