BRIEF: Angels' Mike Trout leads AL outfielders in All-Star balloting

June 23--Mike Trout of the Angels leads among American League outfielders in balloting for the July 14 All-Star game in Cincinnati, according to an update released by Major League Baseball on Monday.

Trout, the reigning American League most valuable player, has 9,148,142 votes, which puts him ahead of Kansas City's Lorenzo Cain, who has 9,079,146 votes, and Royals teammate Alex Gordon (7,810,995).

"It's obviously a good feeling -- you always want to get voted in," Trout said before Monday's game against the Houston Astros at Angel Stadium. "It's fan voting...that's pretty special when they're voting for you."

Trout, 23, ranks third overall in votes among American League players. Royals catcher Salvador Perez has 10,199,151, Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera 9,342,149.

Trout has started the last three All-Star games.

Last season at Target Field in Minneapolis, Trout had a double, a triple, drove in two runs and scored a run and was named the game's most valuable player.

Trout is batting .304 with 18 home runs, 41 runs batted in.
