BRIEF: Angels' Jered Weaver has 'no structural' damage in injured hip

June 23--Angels Manager Mike Scioscia said Monday that preliminary tests on pitcher Jered Weaver's injured left hip showed "no structural" damage.

Weaver, who is 0-4 with a 6.58 earned-run average in his last four games, was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of hip inflammation on Sunday, a day after he gave up four runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings during a 4-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics at Oakland.

About four hours before Monday's game against the Houston Astros at Angel Stadium, Weaver said he had undergone an MRI exam but was not yet aware of the results.

Later, Scioscia told reporters that Weaver "won't pick up a ball for five days, and then we'll just try and see where he is and move forward from there."

Scioscia said, "There's obviously something in his mechanics that are out of whack," but expressed confidence that Weaver would remedy the problem and regain his form. He provided no time frame for Weaver's return.

"Right now, there's no doubt about trying to exhale a little bit and get him back to where he needs to be," Scioscia said.
