BRIEF: Angels acquire third baseman Conor Gillaspie from Chicago White Sox

July 24--The Angels have acquired infielder Conor Gillaspie from the Chicago White Sox for cash considerations, giving them a potential short-term fill-in for injured third baseman David Freese, who broke a bone in his right index finger Wednesday night and will be out for at least three weeks.

The left-handed-hitting Gillaspie, who was designated for assignment by the White Sox, hit .237 with three home runs, 15 runs batted in, 11 doubles and 10 runs in a limited role this season, starting 52 games, 50 at third-base.

As a starter in 2014, Gillaspie, 28, hit .282 with a .336 on-base percentage, .416 slugging percentage, seven homers and 57 RBIs in 130 games. He hit .245 with 13 homers and 40 RBIs in 134 games in 2013.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Gillaspie, who can also play first base, the Angels designated triple-A left-hander Adam Wilk for assignment. Gillaspie is expected to join the team over the weekend.
