BRIEF: Amtrak train plows into vehicle near Chatsworth, prompting delays

Feb. 11--An Amtrak train traveling northbound Wednesday near Chatsworth struck a vehicle that was on the tracks, authorities said.

Train 777, which travels from San Diego to San Luis Obispo, struck the vehicle about 3:45 p.m. near the 9200 block of De Soto Avenue in the San Fernando Valley, according to Metrolink.

The vehicle appeared to be unoccupied at the time of the crash, and no injuries have been reported, said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The train did not derail. Initial reports indicate that no passengers or crew members were injured, Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson said.

Nearly 100 firefighters responded to the scene.

Metrolink said the crash has led to delays for rush-hour riders, with all tracks between Simi Valley and Chatsworth shut down until further notice.

The 115 train to Ventura County was being delayed in Northridge, the transit agency said.
