BRIEF: Amtrak train arrives in Chicago after hitting 'heavy vehicle'

Oct. 14--An Amtrak train on its way to Chicago hit a "heavy vehicle'' that was on the tracks near southwest Somonauk, according to officials.

The train, which pulled into Union Station at 5:47 p.m., was delayed two and a half hours after the incident, Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said.

About 1:40 p.m. California Zephyr Train No. 6 hit the large vehicle that was obstructing the tracks at County Line Road, said Magliari.

One train passenger was taken to an area hospital to be "checked out" but no other injuries were reported.

The train's front plow is bent and may require repairs, he said.

There are 175 passengers aboard the train, which had been scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 2:50 p.m. It was coming from Emeryville, Calif., near San Francisco.
