BRIEF: American Airlines adds flights to Dominican Republic, Norfolk, Providence

Dec. 15--American Airlines this week will begin weekly flights from O'Hare International Airport to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and will add flights to Norfolk, Va., and Providence, R.I., in April, the airline said Tuesday.

The Dominican Republic flights, on Boeing 737-800 aircraft, will be scheduled for Saturdays and will carry 150 passengers.

The April additions will include three daily flights to Norfolk and two daily flights to Providence on Canadair regional jets. The Norfolk flights will carry 189 passengers and those to Providence will carry 126.

Frontier and United airlines also serve Punta Cana out of O'Hare, and Southwest has flights out of Midway. United serves Norfolk and Providence from O'Hare, and Southwest from Midway.

Currently, American Airlines has 518 departures daily out of Illinois. It serves 116 destinations.
