Sept. 05--Some Allstate homeowners' policyholders in Illinois will see an average rate increase of 5.3 percent effective Nov. 2, with the Northbrook-based company saying it needs to keep up with rising costs.
"This equates to an average of approximately $5 per month," Allstate spokeswoman Meghan Sporleder said Friday. "The reason for this change is to keep up with inflation and rising costs."
Nearly 54,000 policyholders will be affected, according to company records.
Allstate-brand homeowners rate increases of 0.7 percent were approved in the second quarter of 2015 in nine states, according to a company filing.
Sporleder said customers could be eligible for discounts or could keep premiums lower by having a higher deductible.
