BRIEF: Allscripts cuts 250 jobs

May 18--Allscripts Healthcare Solutions said Monday it has eliminated 250 jobs primarily in the United States, including some at its Chicago headquarters.

The job cuts represent about 3.5 percent of its global workforce of about 7,200 as of Dec. 31. Allscripts provides information technology services, including electronic health records, to healthcare organizations.

Spokeswoman Concetta DiFranco said, "As a normal course of business, we are rebalancing our teams to ensure we have the right resources allocated to the right projects."

Allscripts said in its 2014 annual report that the company has expanded software development efforts in India, which will enable it to respond "more efficiently and cost-effectively" to changes in software design and product development.

The company reported a $10.1 million loss, or 6 cents a share, in the first quarter ended March 31, compared with a loss of $20.7 million, or 12 cents a share, a year ago.

Revenue declined 2 percent to $335 million in the quarter, but Allscripts said the value of signed contracts for its products and services were at a record high of $236 million, up 6 percent from a year ago.
