BRIEF: All lanes of Lake Shore Drive reopen after CTA bus fire

Nov. 18--All lanes of Lake Shore Drive have been reopened after they were shut down for several hours between North Avenue and Division Street when fire engulfed a CTA bus.

The shell of the bus stood in the western-most southbound lane around 1400 North Lake Shore. Fire officials asked for salt trucks because of ice from fighting the fire.

Initially lanes in both directions of Lake Shore Drive were closed, but northbound lanes were reopened by 7 a.m. as crews worked to clear the scene. The southbound lanes were open by 11 a.m.

CTA bus service on both the inner and outer drives was diverted around the crash for several hours, returning to normal a little before 9 a.m., according to the CTA.
