Feb. 11--Actors Alec Baldwin, Alfre Woodard and hip-hop composer Ali Shaheed Muhammad will take the stage of the Black Ensemble Theater to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Louder Than A Bomb, the annual youth poetry festival put on by Young Chicago Authors, it was announced on Wednesday.
First though, Baldwin, Woodard and Muhammad will participate in other events throughout the day of March 1. The benefit begins with a small, exclusive brunch (tickets are $1,000) at the new Soho House in Fulton Market, 125 N. Green St., where they'll also host a screening of the "Louder Than A Bomb" documentary by Jon Siskel and Greg Jacobs.
A reception on stage at Black Ensemble Theater, 4450 N. Clark St., follows at 6:00 p.m. ($375 tickets).
The day culminates in a performance called "Re-Imagining Chicago" hosted by LTAB co-founder Kevin Coval and featuring poetry performed by Baldwin, Woodard and Muhammad alongside Jasmine Barber, Malcolm Landon, Khari Lemuel, Yaw Lemuel, Kush Thompson and Jamila Woods. Tickets this 7:30 p.m. performance cost $100.
The 2015 festival, featuring 90 performances from 1,200 students, runs Feb. 21 -- March 28. For tickets and more information, call 310-895-4092.
