BRIEF: Air Force pilot from California killed in transport plane crash in Afghanistan

Oct. 03--An officer from California was among six Air Force personnel killed Friday in the crash of a C-130 transport plane in Afghanistan.

Capt. Jonathan Golden, 33, of Camarillo, a pilot, was aboard the plane when it crashed shortly after takeoff from Jalalabad Airfield in eastern Afghanistan. No cause has yet been cited for the crash.

Golden and three other airmen were from the 39th Airlift Squadron at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas. Two other airmen were from the 66th Security Forces Squadron at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.

All of the names were released Saturday by the Department of Defense.

Also killed were five contractors and two Afghans, officials said.

Golden is survived by his wife, Danielle, and two children.

"These airmen were our friends and our family," said Col. Stephen Hodge, 317th Airlift Group commander. "The halls of the group and the skies overhead will never be the same without them."
