BRIEF: After heat-related blackout, power is restored for West Los Angeles residents

Oct. 11--Thousands of West Los Angeles residents, contending with a weekend of heat-related blackouts, got some welcome relief Sunday.

Power was fully restored at 12:30 a.m., halting intermittent outages that began in the area Friday, according the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

More than 9,000 customers lost electricity during the peak of the outages that evening.

Despite temporary fixes, up to 6,300 residents remained without power Saturday as crews worked to make permanent repairs.

DWP spokeswoman Carol Tucker said those repairs included fixing electrical equipment that was overheating. But she said operating conditions are back to normal.

"It's a permanent fix," Tucker said.

This weekend's blackouts hit as a heat wave sent temperatures into the triple digits in Long Beach and downtown L.A.
