BRIEF: Abbey Pub canceling main stage shows this weekend after fire

Nov. 17--The Abbey Pub plans to cancel shows on its main stage this weekend after a fire broke out Tuesday morning at the venue in the Irving Park neighborhood.

Firefighters were called to the Abbey, at 3420 W. Grace St., around 7:30 a.m. and extinguished the blaze in about 15 minutes, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.

Thomas Looney, whose family owns the Abbey, said he didn't know the cause of the fire but it apparently started by the back door.

Looney said the venue sustained smoke damage but the "bar area is fine." Looney said shows on the main stage are "definitely canceled" Friday and Saturday, though bands may be moved to the bar-area stage, which did not sustain damage.

The Pact, Truslow and Kips are scheduled to perform Friday, and Saba with Noname Gypsy and Truth, Stylust Beats, Kyral x Banko and Kota are scheduled for Saturday, according to the venue's online calendar.
