BRIEF: A song from 'Titanic'

Nov. 03--This week's Theater Loop Showcase is Justin Adair and Royen Kent from Griffin Theatre Company's "Titanic." Maury Yeston and Peter Stone's 1997 musical, here receiving its first locally-produced staging, tells the stories of passengers aboard the ill-fated vessel, sans Jack and Rose. In this song, "The Proposal/The Night Was Alive," Frederick Barrett (Adair), a stoker in the engine room, sends a marriage proposal to his sweetheart at home through Harold Bride (Kent), the ship's telegraph operator. Bride meanwhile sings of the pride and purpose his job gives him.

"Titanic" plays Theater Wit, 1229 W. Belmont Ave., through Dec. 7.

We filmed this video, a song from the show, in our studio in Tribune Tower.
